40-year-old urologist collapses, suffers cardiac arrest at Indore conference

Indore: In an unfortunate incident, a 40-year-old female doctor suffered a cardiac arrest while addressing delegates at an international urology conference in Indore on Saturday. She collapsed on stage during her presentation and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to witnesses, her condition deteriorated mid-session, following which she lost consciousness and collapsed on the stage. Medical professionals and attendees immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Following the CPR, she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where spontaneous breathing was restored. However, given the seriousness of her condition, she was later referred to another private hospital for advanced critical care.
Bhaskar English reported that the doctor has been identified as Dr Shreen Butole, a urologist from Mangalore, who had travelled to Indore to participate in the conference. She is currently admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU), where a multidisciplinary medical team is closely monitoring her condition.
The incident took place at the Brilliant Convention Centre, the venue for the International Urology Conference, which is being attended by urologists from India and overseas. Following the incident, the programme was temporarily halted as emergency medical care was provided.
Cardiac arrest cases are rising globally, particularly among young adults, driven by sedentary lifestyles, high stress, smoking, obesity, and post-COVID-19 cardiovascular inflammation.
What is cardiac arrest?
Cardiac arrest is a sudden cessation of the heart’s electrical activity, causing the heart to stop pumping blood effectively. This leads to an immediate loss of consciousness and absence of pulse and breathing. It is a life-threatening emergency that requires instant intervention, such as CPR and defibrillation.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in an unfortunate incident, a general medicine specialist who dedicated his life to improving the health and well-being of his patients tragically passed away due to sudden cardiac arrest.
