429 Faculty quit AIIMS in 3 years

New Delhi: Altogether 429 faculty members have resigned from various All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) during the last three years. Among them, 52 faculty members belonged to AIIMS New Delhi, the Union Minister of State for Health, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, informed the Rajya Sabha recently.
Minister Jadhav shared the data in this regard in response to the queries raised by MP Shri Ramji Lal Suman who questioned if the doctors from various AIIMS, including AIIMS, New Delhi, are leaving their jobs and joining the private sector.
He also sought the detailed number of doctors who have left AIIMS during the last three years and asked if any study has been conducted to find out the reason why doctors are leaving their jobs.
Responding to this, Minister Jadhav informed, "During the last three years (2022-2024), 429 number of faculty have resigned from various All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) including 52 from AIIMS, New Delhi. (Details at Annexure). Reasons for resignation of faculty are both personal and professional." In the form of an annexure, the Minister also provided institute-wise details of faculty members who have left the AIIMS across the country.

As per the data shared by the Minister, the highest number of faculty members have resigned from AIIMS New Delhi in the last three years. Altogether 52 faculty members left AIIMS Delhi, followed by AIIMS Rishikesh, from where altogether 38 faculty members have resigned.
The data revealed that 35 and 32 faculty members resigned from AIIMS Raipur and AIIMS Bilaspur, respectively. Apart from these, 22 faculty resigned from AIIMS Kalyani, 16 resigned from AIIMS Nagpur, 17 resigned from AIIMS Raebareli, 19 resigned from AIIMS Bibinagar, 12 resigned from AIIMS Gorakhpur, 15 resigned from AIIMS Bhubaneshwar, 30 resigned from AIIMS Mangalagiri, 22 resigned from AIIMS Bhatinda, 11 resigned from AIIMS Rajkot, 27 resigned from AIIMS Bhopal, 20 resigned from AIIMS Deogarh, 25 resigned from AIIMS Jodhpur, and 19 resigned from AIIMS Patna.
AIIMS Guwahati and Madurai have a very low faculty resignation rate as altogether 6 and 5 faculty members resigned from these institutes respectively in the last three years. The data revealed that no faculty members resigned from AIIMS Awantipora, Rewari and Darbhanga.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that altogether 2783 faculty and 22861 non-faculty positions are vacant across 23 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), JIPMER (Puducherry), and PGIMER (Chandigarh). Among these, AIIMS across the country have altogether 6376 sanctioned faculty positions. However, 2561 of these positions are unfilled, indicating 40.16% vacant positions. Altogether 19529 out of 58953 non-faculty positions are vacant across the 23 AIIMS. Therefore, around 33% non-faculty positions are vacant at the AIIMS. The data regarding this was shared by the Minister in parliament earlier.
