5 more Kashmiri doctors detained over suspected white-collar terror links

Lucknow: Five more doctors from Kashmir, currently working at hospitals in Saharanpur, Deoband, and Shamli districts of Uttar Pradesh, have been detained for questioning by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). The doctors are suspected of having links with a doctor arrested earlier for his alleged involvement with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) module uncovered in Faridabad.

According to the ATS officials, the detained doctors are employed at private medical facilities in the three west UP districts, and their names have not been revealed. The team added that the detained doctors were in regular contact with the previously arrested doctor.

While teams were questioning the group in UP, another ATS unit reached Uttarakhand to trace an associate of the arrested female doctor linked to the case.

During the investigation, the ATS found that the male accused doctor's (arrested for connection with JeM module) elder brother, a psychiatrist, was running the JeM module from Dubai for the past five years. He used to arrange funds, foreign travel and logistics of module members, and acted as a mediator between a Turkish handler and the India-based network.

Under his instructions, the network of "terror-linked doctors" had been collecting raw material for the terror plot for the past three years. Following this, the Jammu & Kashmir Police has issued a Red Corner Notice for him.

The ATS has also found that a Lucknow-based doctor and brother of the arrested female doctor was connected to the same module. He deliberately chose night shifts to execute the conspiracy.

Prof Haris Ahmad Siddiqui, registrar of the private university in Lucknow where he worked, said, as reported by TOI, "He had joined the institution in July 2021 as a senior resident doctor and worked mostly night duties during his first year."

"We are conducting the operation based on the interrogation of Dr *** and some evidence which emerged during the forensic audit of the gadgets recovered from him," said a source.
