529 specialist doctors appointed by Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission

Indore: With an aim to tackle the shortage of specialist doctors in Madhya Pradesh, the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (the state government-led agency making direct recruitments of civil services) recruited 529 specialist doctors taking the total number of specialist doctors in the state to 1600.

Specialist doctors for the post of paediatrics, gynaecology, radiology, anaesthesia, orthopaedic, medicine, eye, ENT and skin were recruited following the state government's demand letter.

The state government has directly recruited specialist doctors for the first time, which earlier used to take place in the form of promotions to class one specialist category, reports the TOI.

Medical Teachers Association president Dr Madhav Hasani said, "The state government in a policy decision decided to recruit specialist doctors directly against 25% the vacant post." Issues like less salary, lack of timely promotion and increment are preventing the doctors from getting into the posts of super specialists in the state.

Around half of the specialist doctors' post is vacant in the department, and the sanctioned strength of specialist doctors in the state is 3618. In addition, around 1719 posts of medical officers and 442 posts of dentists continue to remain vacant in the state.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that Madhya Pradesh Government decided to open new medical colleges in six districts namely Khargone, Dhar, Bhind, Balaghat, Tikamgarh and Sidhi. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held at Mantralaya in the state capital. After the meeting, State Home Minister Narottam Mishra briefed media persons about the various decisions taken by the council of ministers. The cabinet also extended the date for transfers of employees and officers within the districts from June 30 to till July 7.
