Dehradun: Observing that the doctors are absent from their duties during Out Patient Department hours (between 8 am to 2 pm), the Principal of Government Doon Medical College and Hospital (GDMCH), Dr Ashutosh Sayana has issued notice to the Head of the Five Departments of the Hospital.
While seeking explanation from the doctors, the Hospital chief has further mentioned in the notice appropriate action would be taken against them after investigating the reasons for the absence of the doctors.
Such a decision was taken by the college authorities after Dr Sayana inspected the hospital last week. During the inspection, he noted that several junior doctors were absent from their positions in the OPD.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, recently the contract period of 610 contractual staff at the hospital, who had been hired during the pandemic, has ended. This has led to a huge "staff crunch" at the GDMCH. The daily further adds that even though the Hospital has already written to the Government in this matter, no solution has been provided in this regard yet.
However, as per the authorities, a proposal of re-recruiting the contractual staff would be presented in the cabinet for dealing with the issue of staff crunch.
At such an outset, the inspection of the Principal found some junior doctors absent from their posts and therefore issued the show cause notice. While commenting on the matter,
