Ahmedabad: Drama at civil hospital as doctor couple engages in public fight, clerk gets beaten
Ahmedabad: An ugly fight between a doctor couple erupted at the Kidney hospital on the Civil Hospital campus in Asarwa on Tuesday, when the husband has accused his wife of having an affair.
The couple has been identified as Dr. Anand Chandak aged 45, an orthopedic surgeon at Rajasthan hospital, and Dr. Sheetal Chandak aged 45, a pathology doctor at the Institute Of Kidney Disease And Research Centre (IKDRC). Dr. Anand accused his wife of having affair with a clerk working at the hospital.
The incident began when their son who suffers from adrenoleukodystrophy, a genetic disorder that affects the nervous system and the adrenal glands was admitted to the hospital allegedly without his knowledge. As a result, he objected to the admission of the child to the hospital on March 3.

He alleged in his complaint that his son was in a special room and he went there to visit him but his wife locked the doors from inside for a long time and took considerable time to open the door. In suspicion when he was let in, he checked the bathroom but found out that it was locked from inside. So, he called up other staff members of the hospital and when they broke open the bathroom door, they found the clerk inside.
In his FIR, he also further alleged that when he found out about them, the duo (his wife & the clerk) attacked him in the special room in the presence of his son.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sheetal's complaint presented another version of the incident. She stated that the clerk had come to give her the medicines after she ordered these on the phone on Tuesday morning. Just at that moment, her husband came over and a fight ensued.

According to her, the clerk tried to intervene in the fight, but Dr. Anand allegedly started beating him which compelled him to get into the bathroom. After this, the bathroom door was broken. She contacted the Police and both filed complaints.
The couple is already on the verge of a divorce with their case pending in court. Shahibaug police have registered two separate complaints in the case on the basis of applications filed by the man and his wife.
Police officials told TOI that after their marriage, they shared a strained relationship following frequent fights over domestic issues. Sheetal had filed an application against Anand at Ranip police station in 2020 after which they separated and he sent her a divorce notice. Their elder son aged 18 lives with his father, while the younger one aged 12 lives with his mother.
