AIIMS Bhopal Dep Director caught taking Rs 1 lakh bribe, arrested by CBI
Bhopal: The Deputy Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a pharmacist to clear a pending bill of Rs 40 lakhs.
As per various media accounts, the Director had demanded Rs 2 lakh from the medicine supplier but the deal was finalized at Rs 1 lakh. He was allegedly causing an undue delay in sanctioning it while pressing for the bribe.
UNI reports that the chemist had supplied medicines and equipment to AIIMS. However, the Director was demanding a bribe against approving a bill of Rs 40 lakh.
A complaint was moved by the pharmacist with the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the CBI. According to superintendent of police (SP), CBI Bhopal, AK Pandey the complainant in his complaint said that the Director was not approving the bills. He was demanding 10% of total bill amount as a bribe, complainant told CBI.
After initial verification, a trap was laid and the complainant was sent with colour laced currencies.

Times of India reports that the accused asked him to meet him outside a restaurant near Shahpura police station.
As soon as the Director received the money, he was surrounded by the CBI team led by DSP Atul Hajela. The accused who is posted in the AIIM's administration wing, was caught red-handed, CBI officers said.
Sources told The Free Press Journal that a team of CBI has also been conducting a search at residential premises of the Director and has recovered documents related to bank FDs, life insurances and other properties.
Hajela was accompanied by inspectors Satish Barwal, Vijay Mehra, Sunil Gupta and Shilpa Sharma and sub inspector Deep Sharma.
