AIIMS Jodhpur responds on ragging, academic harassment allegations by MCh neurosurgery graduate, says matter sub judice
Jodhpur: Following the ragging allegations of academic harassment and unfair evaluation made by a former MCh Neurosurgery student against the institute and some seniors, AIIMS Jodhpur has responded with an official statement denying the facts of the allegations.
The institute, in its official handle on the social media platform 'X ', said that news reports and social media posts have published allegations raised by a former student. However, according to AIIMS Jodhpur, it has a robust anti-ragging system, and no ragging complaint was made by the student during his tenure at the institute.
The doctor alleged that he reported ragging that led to years of academic harassment and unfair evaluation in the first examination. At a press conference in Jodhpur, the MCh medico from the 2020–23 batch claimed that he was deliberately failed three consecutive times after filing a ragging complaint against a senior in 2021. He alleged that he eventually cleared the examination on his fourth attempt only after an independent external assessment was conducted under strict security arrangements.
He said that he decided to bring the issue before the media ahead of the AIIMS Jodhpur convocation on Sunday, where Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel attended as the chief guest. He alleged that although the minister had assured an investigation into his complaint, no effective action has been taken so far. He said his intention was not only to seek justice for himself but also to ensure that other medical students do not face similar experiences. The doctor also moved court with the issue, but the matter is currently pending before the court.
Responding to this, AIIMS Jodhpur stated that, as per its records, the allegation of ragging was raised for the first time only in July 2023, after the declaration of the student's final MCh examination result.
The institute said that it follows a transparent examination system with external examiners from reputed institutes across the country. It further stated that after the student raised concerns, the entire examination was videographed.
Noting that the matter is currently pending before the Rajasthan High Court, AIIMS Jodhpur said that since the case is sub judice, it would be inappropriate to comment further on the unverified allegations.
"News items have been published in newspapers and on social media platforms reporting allegations raised by a former student. AIIMS Jodhpur has a robust anti-ragging system, and as per Institute records, no ragging complaint was made by the student during his tenure, the allegation was first raised only in July 2023, after the declaration of his final MCh examination result. The Institute follows a very transparent examination system and comprises external examiners from reputed Institutes of the country. The whole examination was videographed after the complaint of the examinee. The matter is sub judice before the Hon'ble High Court of Rajasthan, and it would be inappropriate to comment on unverified allegations," AIIMS Jodhpur said in the X post.
