Jodhpur: The Medical Superintendent of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur, has resigned from his post after a controversy over the free treatment for a former Union Minister's wife, Bhaskar has reported.
Although Dr. Mahesh Devnani continues to work at AIIMS for now, he has formally tendered his resignation to the AIIMS President. Neither he nor the AIIMS administration has publicly commented on the development.
According to reports, the dispute arose when the MP’s wife approached AIIMS Jodhpur on August 14 for treatment. Dr. Devnani allegedly declined a free check-up and delayed paperwork, citing rules against such provisions. This led to tensions, with the MP reportedly summoning him to his residence and reprimanding him over the matter.
As per the latest media report by Bhaskar, after the incident, the AIIMS administration mailed a copy of the order to all HODs and doctors on August 20. In the letter, it was written that the hospital will maintain proper etiquette towards the Members of Parliament and their family members.
Sources informed the Daily that the MP called the AIIMS Superintendent to his home in the evening and reprimanded him, informing him about the rules. After this, AIIMS Superintendent Dr. Devnani resigned.
It is reported that the wife of a former Union Minister, a member of the AIIMS Institute body and MP, came to AIIMS for treatment on August 14. When she approached AIIMS, the superintendent refused a free check-up. Further, the superintendent reportedly delayed the paperwork citing wrong rules.
