Alleged Medical Negligence: Amritsar Doctor booked under IPC 304 for culpable homicide after 44-year-old patient dies during treatment
Chandigarh: A doctor at a private hospital in Jijiani village has been booked under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder for causing death due to the alleged medical negligence after a 44-year-old patient lost his life during treatment.
The doctor has been identified as Dr Singh who owns a private hospital in Jijiani village where the deceased, Gurmeet Singh went for treatment after he died due to the alleged medical negligence of the doctor.
Therefore, the police booked the doctor on the charge of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder on Monday. So far, no arrests have been made.
The deceased patient's son, Gurmukh Singh claimed that the doctor administered the wrong infections to his father during treatment, resulting in his death. Demanding action against the doctor, he filed a complaint at the police station, and later a case was registered.
The incident occurred when Gurmeet was ill for a few days and his son, Gurmukh, took him to the hospital on Sunday at around 1.30 pm for a checkup. While checking on his father, the doctor gave an intravenous glucose infusion to him. Later, the doctor injected two injections into the drip.
"After this, my father started feeling cold, and his condition worsened. The doctor then injected an injection into a vein in my father's right foot. With this, my father stated feeling shortness of breath. While I was present there, my father fainted, and the doctor told me to rush him to the hospital in Amritsar. However, my father died at his hospital," Gurmukh said in his complaint.
A case was registered under Section 304 (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the doctor. Investigation to nab the doctor and provide justice to Gurmeet is underway.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Majitha police station, Ajit Singh told HT "The doctor is absconding, and raids are on to nab him."
