As per a media report in TOI, the doctor was suffering from depression, informed police sources. However, her husband claimed that they were happy and living satisfactory life for almost 25 years. Therefore, the reason behind her suicide is unknown.
No suicide note was found at the scene and the police have started an investigation after registering a case of unnatural death.
The incident took place around 6.30 in the morning when her husband who is the superintendent of the State Cancer Institute, attached to the Gauhati Medical College, was looking for his wife when he did not find her lying next to him when he woke up.
Searching the house, he went to their daughter's room and found her locked inside the room. After continuous efforts, he broke open the door of the room and found her lifeless body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Following this, the husband rushed her immediately to the GMCH where the doctors declared her brought dead.
“Her body was sent to GMCH for autopsy and the report is being awaited. A case of unnatural death has been registered. But according to preliminary investigation, it seems to be a case of suicide. There is nothing to suggest foul play,” an investigating officer of Hatigaon police station told the daily.
“Around 6.30 in the morning, when I woke up, I saw that my wife was not in bed. When I opened the door of her room, the unfortunate incident came to light. Our daughter lives in Delhi,” Dr Choudhury told media persons.
