Assam: Junior Doctor attempts suicide, rescued by colleagues
Cachar: A junior doctor who was recently posted in the Kalain Community Health Centre as part of rural service after graduating from Silchar Medical College and Hospital was found unconscious at his rented apartment in Kalain. The doctor is reported to have attempted suicide.
The doctor, a resident of College Road, Silchar, stayed in a rented room near the hospital. The doctor was reportedly drenched in blood and was located on the floor. The doctor's colleagues found his unconscious body when he didn't show up at the health centre for work.
He was eventually taken to the health centre where he was posted. However, the doctor was rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital due to his severe condition. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
The Barak Bulletin reports that the doctor's condition is now stable, and he is being treated in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit. According to sources, he was going through a lot of mental stress.
The incident has shocked and saddened medical professionals, particularly the young, newly graduated doctors who are posted in remote areas as part of their rural posting. After completing their graduation, all doctors must compulsorily provide one year of rural service after completing their MBBS.
