Assam: Man accused of using fake MBBS certificate to practise medicine

Fake Doctor
Mangaldal: A case of alleged medical fraud has been reported from Mangaldai in Darrang district, where a man posing as a qualified doctor was found practising medicine using a fake MBBS certificate. The incident has raised alarm over regulatory lapses in private healthcare facilities in the region.
The accused reportedly managed to secure the position of in-charge at a clinic in Kharupetia and continued practising for nearly seven months before the deception came to light.

According to reports, investigations revealed that the accused had submitted a forged certificate claiming an MBBS qualification. The document, dated December 2, 2008, falsely states that he studied at “Delhi Degree College” and was awarded a diploma by an organisation called the International Association of Independent Publishers (America). The certificate also refers to a dubious three-year medical course.
Even the addresses mentioned on the certificate are contradictory and suspicious — one is listed as 77 Vipin Garden, New Delhi 110059, and there is a previous address in Gobind Pura, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang Sayaal Road, Pakistan. The entire document is a blatant forgery that should have been immediately dismissed, reports the Sentinel.
Shockingly, the accused was appointed to a key medical position at the clinic, which had received provisional registration under registration number AS13/DRA/034 on November 11, 2025. The clinic is reportedly owned by another individual, with the accused placed in charge of medical responsibilities.
The fraud was exposed after complaints were filed and a verification process was conducted by the health department. Following the investigation, the Joint Director of District Health Services issued orders to stop him from practising medicine immediately. The impostor even had the audacity to claim that MBBS stands for ‘Medical Basics of Biological System'.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage among local residents, alleging that several unauthorised practitioners continue to operate in areas such as Kharupetia, Dalgaon, and Besimari, running clinics and pharmacies using forged certificates.
