Assistant Professor Gynaecology succumbs to Post Partum Hemorrhage at Pudukkotia Government Hospital

Pudukkotai: In an unfortunate incident, an assistant professor of gynaecology succumbed to post-partum haemorrhage after delivering her twins through a caesarean- section at Ranee’s Government Memorial Hospital in Pudukkotai.

According to the health officials, she complained of shortness of breath and died of bleeding from C-section surgery after delivery of her twins. The decision to conduct the C-section was taken after she developed severe labour pain and her condition was deteriorating.

The deceased was a postgraduate student and assistant professor of gynaecology at the Pudukkottai Government Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place on Tuesday when the doctor developed severe labour pain and was rushed to Ranee’s Government Memorial Hospital. Although her family planned to admit her to a private hospital in Tiruchy, it failed as her condition was deteriorating over time.

Following the severity of her condition, the doctors conducted a C-section on her and she delivered two twin boys. However, shortly she was experiencing shortness of breath and passed away. The medical team's effort to save her went in vain.

A medical officer at the hospital on condition of anonymity informed TNIE that the doctor did not take better care of her health.

Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services S. Sripriya Thenmozhi told The Hindu, “Upon arrival at the hospital, the doctors promptly attended to her. Unfortunately, the patient had suffered from premature separation of the placenta with twin pregnancy. She passed away due to post-partum haemorrhage."

Meanwhile, the newborn twins also suffered breathing difficulties following which they were transferred to a private hospital in Tiruchy. Both the babies have been kept in an incubator.
