Police said the incident occurred on the balcony of his residence. Family members and nearby residents rushed to the spot after hearing a loud sound, but sources said the doctor had already died before help could arrive.
Speaking to TOI, DCP Narayan Baramani, who visited the scene, said preliminary information suggests he may have taken the step due to illness and mental distress. An investigation has been initiated in this regard, and he said the exact cause will be confirmed after the FSL report is received.
Former Belagavi mayor Vijay More, who also visited the residence, revealed that the deceased doctor had sent messages to some of his close friends around 6.10 am on Friday. In the messages, he reportedly mentioned that he had been suffering from severe pain caused by lung cancer.
In one of the messages sent to a friend, he reportedly wrote, “You have helped me all these years. However, I am suffering from severe pain and have taken this difficult decision under these circumstances. “This is my personal decision. Kindly help my family and also inform the City Police Commissioner,” according to reports by IANS.
Sources said the doctor had been diagnosed with lung cancer nearly four months ago and often shared details of his suffering with close friends.
Officials from Tilakwadi police station, along with senior police officers, inspected the spot and initiated further inquiry into the incident.
