Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences PG medico commits suicide by medicine overdose

Suicide
Belagavi: In a tragic incident, a 27-year-old postgraduate student pursuing psychiatry at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) allegedly ended her life by consuming an overdose of medicines in her hostel room.
According to recent media reports, this was not the student’s first attempt to harm herself. Just a few days ago, she had attempted suicide by slitting her wrist but was saved with immediate medical intervention. It has been reported that she had been battling depression for several months and was undergoing treatment.
No suicide note was found in her room, and the reason behind her taking the extreme step for the second time is also unknown. The police have launched an investigation from all angles to identify the cause.

As per TNIE, the incident took place on Monday when the student had completed her hospital duty at around 6.30 pm on Monday and returned to her hostel room. She was found lying on her bed unconscious. Her hostelmates immediately admitted her to the emergency departtment of the hospital, where she was declared dead.
BIMS Director Ashok Shetty, who visited the site, told IANS that she had been suffering from a mental health condition and was battling depression. However, the police stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem report comes.
A case has been registered at the APMC Police station. More details are yet to emerge regarding the incident.
Medical Dialogues earlier reported that a third-year medical student at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Maharashtra's Gondia district reportedly attempted suicide after allegedly being reprimanded by the head of his department over conduct and attendance issues. The student reportedly tried to hang himself from a ceiling fan at his rented accommodation. He was rescued in time by friends, who broke open the door after being alerted by a distressing WhatsApp post he had shared shortly before the attempt.
