Bengaluru doctor couple's domestic help arrested for alleged Rs 50 lakh theft

Bengaluru: A 51-year-old domestic worker has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold jewellery, silver articles, cash and other valuables worth around Rs 50 lakh from the residence of a doctor couple in Bengaluru.
The accused had been working at the family's home for nearly 18 years and was taken into custody following an investigation by the Jayanagar Police.
According to the police, the theft came to light after the couple noticed that Rs 65,000 was missing from cash they had kept aside for a family function. Suspecting foul play, they checked other valuables stored in a cupboard and allegedly found that gold jewellery, silver items and cash were also missing.
When questioned about the missing valuables, the domestic worker denied any involvement. She was subsequently relieved of her duties, and a police complaint was lodged after the missing items could not be traced.

According to a TOI report, growing suspicious, the couple verified the valuables stored in the cupboard and found that gold jewellery, silver articles, silver biscuits, and cash were missing. They suspected the domestic help and questioned her. However, she claimed she had not even seen the jewellery and cash.
During the investigation, police found that the accused had left her residence and was allegedly absconding. She was later traced and arrested. During questioning, she allegedly admitted to stealing the valuables, which had been hidden at her house.
As per Deccan Herald, police recovered 262 grams of gold jewellery, 2.4 kg of silver biscuits and other silver articles, Rs 65,000 in cash, and five silk saris. The total value of the recovered valuables is around Rs 50 lakh.
Police said the woman had worked at the house for several years and had gained the family's trust, giving her access to different parts of the residence. Officials added that the value of the recovered property was higher than what had initially been reported in the complaint.
