The 29-year-old woman who was 14 weeks pregnant approached the doctor for an abortion in April 2022, who then allegedly prescribed her 10 abortion pills. However, her health began to worsen and she passed away in JJ Hospital on July 5, reports Times Bureau.
Her family had alleged it to be a case of forced abortion from her in-laws. She reportedly was going through harassment at home from the family of her husband, who had reportedly ordered her to have an abortion.
On May 10, she began bleeding severely after consuming eight of the ten abortion pills prescribed by the doctor. Her condition began to deteriorate on May 28, and she was admitted to a Dr Dhumals dispensary following which she was transferred to Pen Sub-District Hospital, reports the Times Bureau. Anita passed away on July 5 after undergoing surgery, and she was suffering from various problems including a serious infection in her uterus, a breathing problem, and jaundice.
As per the TOI report, the police arrested Dr Dhumal (67), the deceased mother-in-law and father-in-law. Further, the police arrested Anita's sister-in-law Devta Bhoir and brother-in-law Vinayak Bhoir from Nagothane on Friday.
