Crackdown on Fake doctors: 2 more arrested in Silchar

Fake Doctors Busted in Cachar Raids
Silchar: Following the recent crackdown by the Assam government to curb illegal medical practices, two more fake doctors have been arrested in Silchar, taking the total number of quacks caught in Cachar district to eight over the past fortnight.
Medical Dialogues team recently reported that just days after a fake doctor was arrested from Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Cachar police have intensified their efforts against unqualified medical practitioners by arresting two more fake dentists who had been operating clinics for the past ten years in the Tarapur area of Silchar.

According to the news reports, one of the accused was arrested from a pharmacy in Borkhola, where he was actively posing as a licensed medical practitioner. Police also recovered fake documents and certificates, including a bogus MBBS degree purportedly from a medical college in Bengaluru. The other accused was also found using forged credentials and was arrested from Jirighat, where he had reportedly been practising medicine for a considerable period.
Speaking to TOI, a senior police officer said the preliminary probe has revealed the involvement of two Silchar-based agencies that have been supplying fake medical degrees. “Investigation is on to unearth the full network. So far, we have arrested eight fake doctors from across the district,” he added. Police said the crackdown against quacks will continue, terming the practice a “serious threat to public health and safety.”

In a separate case, police arrested another fake doctor late Monday night at a private hospital in Ghungoor. According to investigators, the accused had obtained a forged MD certificate from a hospital in Kaziranga and had been practising as a specialist doctor at the facility.
"We are probing how he managed to practice at a private facility despite these fake documents,” police said, reports the Tripura Times.
