Doctor accused of watching reels for 15 minutes as patient dies of heart attack at UP hospital

Agra: Allegations of medical negligence have come up at Mainpuri District Hospital, where after suffering a heart attack a 60-year-old woman kept lying at the emergency ward for nearly 15 minutes and died while the on-duty doctor allegedly watched reels on his mobile phone.

The family of the deceased patient claimed that crucial time was lost because of the negligence of the doctor on duty- Dr. Sanger, TOI has reported.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, the elderly patient was brought to the hospital around noon on Tuesday. It is reported that the on-duty doctor gave instructions to a nurse to handle the patient instead of attending to the patient personally.

Even though the relatives pleaded with the doctor to attend to the patient, allegedly "he did not budge and remained glued to his phone."

TOI has reported that when the patient's condition worsened further and her son raised his voice in protest, the doctor allegedly slapped him, leading to chaos in the hospital. Ultimately, police officials came to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The CCTV footage of the incident went viral on the social media platforms. It shows that the doctor is sitting on the chair and browsing through his phone while the nurses are handling the patient.

Further, it could be seen in the video that when an attendant of the patient pushed the doctor, the doctor in turn slapped a man. As per TOI, the person whom the doctor slapped was the patient's son. Soon, the situation worsened and a group of people could be seen attacking the doctor.

Commenting on the matter, the patient's son, told TOI, "I, along with my brothers, brought my mother to the emergency ward of the Mainpuri govt hospital. She was serious and we placed her on the stretcher. The compounder and the nurse on duty were attending to other patients, but the doctor was sitting at his desk and was busy using his mobile phone. He passed orders to the compounder and the nurse, and treated my mother as if she was a patient suffering from cough and cold. He said my mother would be fine after the nurse attended to her."

"My brothers and I were in complete distress. We were rubbing her arms and feet, as we didn't know what else to do about it. This situation went on for 15 minutes... Suddenly, blood started coming out of my mother's mouth. We were terrified and didn't know what to do. The doctor was still sitting in his chair. When he finally came towards us, it was in anger. He then slapped me," he further added.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, the Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Madan Lal confirmed the incident and said, "An investigation into the matter has already been initiated. If found guilty, strict action will be taken against those responsible. The matter has been reported to higher authorities."
