Doctor arrested after wife accuses him of demanding Rs 10 lakh dowry
Erode: Based on a case filed by a doctor associated with Erode Government Hospital against her doctor husband alleging harassment over dowry, the All Women Police arrested the medical practitioner.
The 36-year-old doctor filed a case against her husband before the Madras High Court. The details shared by the woman indicate that the duo got married in 2010. 117 sovereigns of gold jewelry and Rs 32 lakh in cash were given by her parents as dowry during the marriage.
However, the doctor allegedly harassed her demanding Rs 10 lakh more. Following this, the couple got separated. However, the accused refused to return her cash and jewelry.

Based on the petition filed by the victim before the court, the police registered a case against the doctor. As per a recent media report in The New Indian Express the accused was finally arrested on December 30
Last year, a similar incident was reported from Mumbai, where a Dombvili based doctor was accused by his wife of demanding a 30 lakh dowry. The wife is also a doctor (dermatologist). The accused threatened the victim that if she didn't pay the money then he would hire men to rape her. A case of domestic violence had been registered by the Mumbai police against the accused doctor.
