Doctor Leaves Towel inside Patient During C-Section, Probe Ordered
Betul: The District Collector recently ordered an investigation into an alleged act of negligence by a doctor at a district hospital, who reportedly left a towel inside a woman's belly while conducting a caesarian section operation.
Allegedly, the patient was admitted to a private hospital in Betul with complaints of unbearable pain. Consequently, the towel was found in the patient's belly and it was removed at the private hospital on Wednesday, after around 3 months of the C-section operation.
The patient hails from Amla and the C-section operation was conducted around three months ago. Surgeons from the private hospital removed the towel from her stomach.
As per the latest media report by ETV Bharat, the woman's intestines have also been damaged. Meanwhile, the collector ordered an investigation into the act of negligence of the medical staff after the matter came to light and the collector has also assured to take strict action in this regard.
The family of the patient accused the surgeon who conducted the C-section operation at the District Hospital of medical negligence and demanded action. ETV Bharat has reported that the patient's husband and her father both do casual labour to earn their living. Therefore, the family had to take a loan to get her operated in the private hospital.
Cimmenting on the matter, the Chief Medical Officer of the District Hospital, Dr. Ravikant Uike assured that proper action would be taken against those found guilty after conducting proper investigation into the matter. He added, "It has come to his notice that a cloth was left in the stomach of a woman during delivery in the district hospital. We will investigate this matter and action will be taken against whoever is found guilty."
