Rajasthan Administrative officer dies after botched hysterectomy at Jodhpur Hospital, family alleges medical negligence
Jodhpur: Doctors at a private hospital in Jodhpur have been accused of medical negligence by the family of 33-year-old Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer Priyanka Bishnoi after she died in the hospital while undergoing treatment for 13 days following an alleged botched hysterectomy. The district administration has ordered a probe in this regard.
Priyanka Bishnoi had undergone a hysterectomy at a private hospital in Jodhpur on September 5, after she complained of abdominal pain and the doctors diagnosed a lump in her uterus. However, on September 6, her condition deteriorated and her family took her to a hospital in Ahmedabad the next day. Bishnoi was under treatment in Ahmedabad for 13 days but unfortunately died on Wednesday late at night.
Following her death, the family members accused the doctors and the Jodhpur hospital administration of medical negligence during her surgery. As per an ET news report, the family stated that her condition deteriorated soon after the surgery, and she was unable to recover.

An official informed PTI that the incident triggered protests, and some people, including members of the Bishnoi community, assembled outside the AIIMS hospital in Jodhpur and demanded an FIR against the accused doctor and hospital.
“We explained to them that according to government guidelines, the police could only file a case after receiving the investigation report from the constituted team. After this, an agreement was reached to take the body, and the protest ended after about four and a half hours”, said an official.
After the protest was withdrawn, the family members and Bishnoi community members left with her body for Surpura in Phalodi for the last rites. On the other hand, considering the community's outrage, security was also beefed up late at night at the Jodhpur hospital and the residence of its director.
Priyanka Bishnoi hails from Bikaner and is an RAS officer from the 2016 batch. She was serving as a sub-district magistrate in Jodhpur.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhanjan Lal Sharma also condoled her death praying for eternal peace to the soul and strength to the family. In a post on 'X', he said “The demise of Rajasthan Administrative Service officer Priyanka Bishnoi ji is extremely sad. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant a place to the departed soul at his feet and give strength to the family members to bear this grief."
Probe ordered
In response to the accusations made by the deceased parents, District Collector Gaurav Agarwal ordered an investigation into the matter. This comes after her family claimed that she was either given too much anaesthesia or lost excessive blood which resulted in her death.
Further, Agarwal directed the SN Medical College administration to form an expert committee for a high-level probe into the allegations against the private hospital, according to a TOI news report.
Based on the direction, the SN Medical College administration formed a five-member committee including Dr Ranjana Desai from the gynaecology department, Dr Indu Thawani from medicine, Dr Vijay Sharma from surgery, Dr Shubhkaran Khinchar from neurology and Dr Naveen Paliwal from anaesthesia. The report will be submitted in three days.
Agarwal said, "If negligence is found on the part of the hospital, action would be taken against it. The matter will become clear after the expert committee’s report. If negligence in her treatment is confirmed, strict action will be taken immediately."
