According to the latest Government Order No. 483-JK (HME) dated July 23, 2024, “In continuation of Government Order No. 583-JK (HME) of 2023 dated 25.07.2023 and in the interest of administration and patient care, Professor (Dr.) Ashutosh Gupta, professor and head department of radiation oncology, Government Medical College Jammu shall continue to hold the charge of the post of principal, Government Medical College Jammu in addition to his duties till further orders.” The order was issued by Dr Shahid Abid Rashid Shah (IAS), secretary to the government on 23rd July 2024.
Since his appointment, Prof Gupta has been involved in spearheading various initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, fostering research opportunities, and ensuring high-quality medical education for students. Under his leadership, GMC Jammu has navigated numerous challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining superior standards of healthcare delivery. His efforts have been widely recognized within the medical community who appreciate his contributions to transforming GMC Jammu into a centre of excellence in medical education and healthcare.
Living a message for his students as the principal of GMC Jammu, Dr. Gupta stated, “It is a matter of proud privilege for me to take over as founder Principal of Govt. Medical College. It will be my earnest endeavour to put in all my concerted efforts in overcoming all the challenges that are always there once any new medical institution is conceptualized. Teaching, patient care, and research which are the pillars of any medical school will be my targeted focus. We have a dedicated faculty team who have joined this institution and I am confident that with their support and with the support of the consultants and the staff which was already in place in Associated District Hospital, a state-of-the-art institution will come up in this area in the shortest possible time.”
