Dr Rajiv Garg, Director Lady Hardinge Medical College appointed New Director General of Health Services
New Delhi: The Director of renowned lady Hardinge Medical College, Dr Rajiv Garg has been appointed as a new Director-General of Health Services (DGHS), India. Dr Garg will continue to hold the position at DGHS till he attains 62 years of age.
The information to this effect was announced by the DGHS office through a recently issued order.
Dr Rajiv has replaced Dr Sanjay Tyagi who was appointed at this position at the age of 61 in September last year. Dr Tyagi will now continue to his old faculty at GB Pant Institute and Maulana Azad Medical College in non-administrative capacity.

Dr Rajiv Garg, Director and Professor of Opthalmology at Lady Hardinge Medical College, was serving the Lady Hardinge Medical College from almost 31 years. He was promoted as Director of the institute in October 2017.
Now, the DGHS has appointed him as the Officer-in-Charge with full financial and administrative powers for the smooth functioning of the office of DGHS. He assumed the charge from January 1st 2020 and will attain this position till the age of 62.
The Directorate General of Health Services (Directorate GHS) is a repository of technical knowledge concerning Public Health, Medical Education and Health Care. It is an attached organization of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The Directorate GHS is headed by Director General of Health Services (DGHS), a Secretary level officer of Central Health Services, who renders technical advice on all medical and public health matters to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Directorate GHS oversees the functioning of Central Government Hospitals and their management. It also addresses the health concerns of the people through its Subordinate Offices/Institutes spread all over the country.
