Eminent Ophthalmologist Dr BN Gupta takes charge as new President of IMA Dhanbad
Dhanbad: In a significant appointment, Ophthalmologist Dr B.N Gupta has been elected as the new president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dhanbad for the 2024-26 session.
In a recent election that took place at Dhanbad Club after six years interval, Dr BN Singh was unanimously selected to replace outgoing president Dr Major Chandan and become the new president.
Dr Gupta is the Medical Director & Chief Consultant at Navjyoti Netrayala in Dhanbad. He completed his MBBS from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS) in 1978 and his MS in ophthalmology from Ranchi University in 1982.

Received Dr Lakshmi Narain Intramural Oration Award in 2016 and 1st EIZOC Luminary Award at Silchar (Assam) in 2009. He joined as a member of the Eastern India Zonal Ophthalmological Congress (EIZOC) in 2000, the Association of Community Ophthalmologists of India (ACOIN) in 2010 and has been actively associated with All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) since 1987.
Meanwhile, Dr Rakeshinder Singh has been also elected as the new secretary of IMA Dhanbad by replacing Dr Sushil Singh. Dr Rakeshinder Singh earlier served as the treasurer in the outgoing committee.
With Secretary Dr Sushil Singh being absent from the district for the past four years, Dr Rakeshinder Singh took the additional responsibility of managing the district IMA as reported by The Jharkhand Story.
Speaking to the Daily, Dr Rakeshinder Singh said, "At present doctors of Dhanbad are facing extortion demand problems from anti-social elements. So our first priority is to provide them with a congenial atmosphere in collaboration with district and police administrations so that they could provide better quality of health services to patients without any fear and pressure."
Moreover, Dr AK Singh and Dr Pranay Purvey were also elected as new treasurer unanimously.
