Gang tries to extort Rs 5 lakh from Delhi Doctor, pretending to be patients, 4 arrested
New Delhi: A group of four men including a scrap dealer, a 16-year-old boy have been arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from a doctor at gunpoint in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura area. The group came to the clinic called City Clinic in North Ghonda pretending as a patient on December 1 and 2, 2023.
The incident came to light, when the doctor filed a complaint with Bhajanpura Police Station. He told police that, on November 1, four unknown persons pretending to be patients came to his clinic. They threatened him with a gunpoint and also demanded Rs 5 Lakh from him as protection money.
After the case was registered, the police obtained the clinic’s CCTV footage and immediately formed teams to nab the accused. The Police were able to zero in on some of the suspects and made the arrests.
As per a TOI report, the accused have been identified as Haider Ali alias Sameer (18), Faisal Pathani (18), Sakib (19) and Mohammad Zaim (23). According to the IANS, the gang included six people among those the two is identified as Bada Sahil and Chhota Sahil. The hunt for two more of their accomplices is still on. All are residents of Subhash Mohalla.
The investigation revealed that, Mohammad Zaim was the mastermind behind the whole incident. TI, Deputy Commissioner of Police Bhajanpura, Joy Tirkey informed PTI, "Some people had demanded protection money from the doctor last month and he complied. This motivated him to plan a similar extortion scheme and arrange for the man to send them to the clinic."
Haider Ali alias Sameer, the scalp dealer, was already apprehended in a murder and robbery case as a juvenile. The other one Sakib was detained in a theft case and was released on bail just two months ago.
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under sections 387, and section 34 of the Indian Panel Code at Bhajanpura Police station.
