Goa: 27-year-old doctor found dead, stuffed in drawer at his residence; 4 arrested

Margao: In a gruesome cold-blooded murder reported from South Goa, a 27-year-old eye specialist was found murdered with his body stuffed inside a drawer at his residence in Betalbatim. Following this, the Rajasthan police arrested four men, including a cook, from the police checkpost in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district on Thursday.

According to the police, the accused were trying to flee from Goa by travelling 1,400 km to Rajasthan via Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh in the doctor’s car.

The accused have been identified as 31-year-old Simanchal Parida, a native of Odisha (the cook) and his three accomplices 19-year-old Alok Singh and 25-year-old Nagendra Kumar, both from Alwar, Rajasthan, and Shahid Khan from Mumbai.

The murder occurred on January 7 when the doctor was unreachable and failed to report to work due to which his colleagues and hospital staff became worried. After failing to get a hold of him, they reached out to the Colva police.

Meanwhile, when the police visited his house for investigation, they found the house to be locked. Moments later, the police entered the doctor’s bedroom and found his dead body stuffed inside a drawer attached to his bed, with his hands and legs tied up.

The doctor, a native of Bihar was working in an eye hospital at Nuvem and has been staying in Betalbatim in the rented premises on the second floor of the building.

A dog squad and team of forensic experts were pressed into service to collect evidence and to give leads to the investigating team to nab the culprits involved in the murder, Herald goa reports.

A case was registered under Section 302 of the IPC after confirming the incident to be a murder case. Later, his body was sent to the South Goa District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

While investigating the case, the police became suspicious of a person who was appointed as a cook for the doctor. Parida had been working as a cook for the doctor for the past few days. Therefore, the police were on the lookout of the cook to shed light on the gruesome murder.

The four accused were arrested by the Rajasthan police after they were tracked using the location of the 27-year-old doctor’s mobile phone that they also stole and carried with them. Many other stolen items were discovered by the police.

It is reported that the cook was the mastermind behind the murder as the CCTV footage from the apartment showed him entering the doctor’s house with one of the accused and 15 mins later two others were seen entering the house.

South Goa superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Dhania told HT “The primary motive of the crime was to steal his cash and belongings as well as his car. We have recovered cash, electronic devices as well as the car that was stolen.”

Meanwhile, the Colva police left for Rajasthan, to take them into custody. The operation to nab the accused was executed jointly after the Colva police sent wireless messages about the murder to all stations across Goa and beyond.
