IGGMC Nagpur HoD Surgery, stenographer detained in fitness certificate bribery case

ACB Traps Mayo Hospital HoD, Stenographer for Alleged Bribe Demand
Nagpur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has detained the Head of the Department (HoD) of Surgery and Chairperson of the Medical Board at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC) and Mayo Hospital, along with his stenographer, in connection with an alleged Rs 30,000 bribery case involving the issuance of a medical fitness certificate.
The two accused were detained on Tuesday and subsequently remanded to two days of police custody by a special ACB court on Wednesday.

According to ACB officials, the case came to light after an assistant motor vehicle inspector (AMVI) posted at the Sub-Regional Transport Office in Wardha alleged that he was asked to pay Rs 30,000 for issuance of a fitness certificate required for resuming duty after a three-month medical leave.
Officials said that after negotiations, the demand was allegedly reduced to Rs 20,000, which the accused reportedly agreed to accept.
The ACB laid a trap on Tuesday. However, the accused allegedly refrained from accepting the bribe after becoming suspicious of the complainant. Despite the money not being accepted, the verification established that a bribe had been demanded, following which both accused were detained, reports UNI.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Following detention of the duo, ACB and police had carried out searches during which around 35,000 cash along with valuables worth 5 lakh were recovered from the doctor's residence, said an ACB source. Nothing substantial was found at the stenographer's house, the source added, reports TOI.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Deputy Civil Surgeon and district PNDT nodal officer posted in Nuh district after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
