Mumbai: In an unfortunate incident, a first-year resident doctor from the Department of Radiology at Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Hospital allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room on Tuesday, reportedly due to mental stress and depression, police said.
According to the official, the deceased, a 26-year-old resident doctor, had been suffering from mental stress and depression for the past few months and was under treatment, news agency PTI reported.
The deceased, a native of Dasemgaon village under Vashi taluka of Dharashiv district in central Maharashtra, had joined the radiology department at the prestigious state-run hospital in February, officials added.

The incident came to light on Tuesday morning after the doctor failed to report for duty in his department. Suspecting something was amiss, his colleagues went to the hostel in the afternoon, where they reportedly found him hanging in his room, officials said.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation was underway, he added, reports PTI.
An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered at the Sir JJ Marg police station.
The incident has once again sparked concern within the medical community over the growing mental stress among resident doctors.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a doctor working at AIIMS Bhopal allegedly attempted suicide along with his family in Andhra Pradesh, resulting in the death of his wife and minor daughter, while he remains in critical condition.
According to police officials, the accused doctor had checked into a lodge on Saturday evening along with his wife (30) and their three-year-old daughter.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning when hotel staff found the family members lying unconscious in their room and immediately alerted the police.
