J&K govt reconstitutes Medical Council, Appoints 6 new members
Srinagar: Through a recent notification, the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department announced the reconstitution of the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council (JKMC) by appointing six new members.
Replacing the previous four-member council constituted in 2021, the department partially modified the notification S.O 362 of 2021 dated 20-10-2021 and appointed six members for the council.

Dr Shahzada Muhammad Saleem Khan, Professor of Community Medicine at GMC Srinagar has been made the President of the Council whereas Dr Vishal R Tandon, Professor of Pharmacology at GMC Jammu; Dr Mehnaaz Sultan Khuroo, Professor of Pathology at GMC Srinagar; Dr Sandeep Dogra, Professor of Microbiology at GMC Jammu; Dr Asifa Nazir, Associate Professor of Microbiology at GMC Srinagar and Dr Jyoti Jolly, Chief Medical Officer (In-Charge Divisional Nutrition Officer, Jammu) has been designated as its members.
A notification issued by the Secretary of J&K Health and Medical Education Department, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah mentioned, “In exercise of powers conferred by Section 98 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 and in partial modification of notification S O 362 of 2021 dated October 20, 2021, the Lieutenant Governor hereby directs that the table appended to the said notification shall be substituted by these officers."
As per a Greater Kashmir news report, the J&K Government, vide Notification S O 362 of 2021 dated October 20, 2021, had notified the names of four officers, “competent to discharge the functions of the Jammu and Kashmir Medical Council, in terms of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 (Act No 30 of 2019), for regulating the practice and registration of practitioners of medicine in J&K, till any law is established is enacted in this behalf in J&K.”
