Karnataka: Radiologist, doctor wife injured in brutal knife assault, hospitalized
Mysuru: Upset with Mysuru-based radiologist and his doctor wife for allegedly not giving him a job at their clinic, an intruder brutally assaulted the doctor couple at their residence for 45 minutes, causing serious injuries to both, and left the house with the valuables.
The doctor couple has been identified as Keshava P Raichurkar (Radiologist), 70, and his wife Dr Krishnakumari, 65. The couple runs the Excel Prime Diagnostic Centre in Saraswathipuram.
As per various media accounts, the incident took place on Thursday night, around 8.30 pm when an unidentified man wearing a mask and a helmet allegedly entered the couple's house in Vijayanagar II Stage. Preliminary investigation revealed that the intruder was upset with the couple for not giving him a job in their clinic.
Times of India reports the couple is currently undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital of the city. Although Dr Krishnakumari has been shifted from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Dr. Raichurkar is still battling for his life in the ICU, a source close to the family has informed The Hindu.
The city police have formed a special team to nab the assailant who had left the couple in critical health condition. While commenting on the matter, AN Prakash Gowda, Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order), has informed TOI that the assailant probably is in his 30s.
Giving updates about the night of the unfortunate accident, the Deputy Commissioner added that after hearing the opening sound of the compound gate, Dr Krishnakumari opened the grill gate assuming that it had been her husband coming home. Unfortunately, that's when the intruder broke inside the house and caught the doctor by her neck, and smashed her head against a wall before punching her. He allegedly locked her inside the kitchen after this.
Soon after this attack, Dr Keshava returned home and had been attacked brutally with a knife. After slitting the throat of the doctor, the assailant slashed him mercilessly all over, which left the doctor seriously injured, adds TOI.
The intruder allegedly left the house after robbing Krishnakumari of her gold chain and bangles. The Times of India, in an earlier media report, had mentioned that after primary investigation, the Police had found that the intruder had been upset with the couple for not giving him a job in their clinic.
