Kolkata: Man posing as dermatologist prescribed wrong medicines to patients, arrested

Kolkata: Police arrested a fraudster along with an aide on Sunday who allegedly impersonated a Kolkata-based dermatologist and prescribed wrong medicines to patients. They have been booked under IPC sections under cheating, criminal breach of trust, forgery, fraud, and impersonation.

Lalbazar officers told that they have identified his aide as Rajib Sarkar, a medical representative who lives in New Tollygunge. The man impersonating as a dermatologist is Shubho Nath, of Sukantanagar in Bidhannagar South.

An officer told The Telegraph, "posing as a doctor and prescribing medicines was a serious offense and could lead to fatal consequences for the patients."

The police came to know about the matter on February 8 when they received a doctor's complaint about being impersonated by someone, who forged letterhead and prescribed wrong medicines to patients.

After which a probe was started by Officers of Rabindra Sarobar police station in south Kolkata and the duo was then arrested.

Earlier Medical Dialogues team has reported that An Andheri-based doctor was cheated of Rs 47,000 by a man who claimed to be an Indian Army officer and booked blood tests for 10 soldiers.

The doctor filed a complaint with the police claiming that the unidentified man called him to book blood tests for 10 soldiers on the pretext of paying him online. However, the man was deceived by stealing from him instead of paying.

The accused identified himself as Sahil Kumar and claimed to be an officer in the Indian Army as per police sources.

According to the complainant, Dr. Aneesh Sabnis, the man called him and enquired about the cost of blood tests of 10 soldiers. The doctor told him it would cost Rs 30,000 but came down to Rs 26,000 after Kumar sought concessions.

On January 21, the doctor sent his employee to Terminal 2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, as Kumar told him that there is an Army hospital at the airport and that the test would be conducted there and the payment would be done in advance. Later, the doctor found out that Kumar lied to him.
