Kurukshetra Gynaecologist murdered, house robbed: 5 arrested

Kurukshetra: Following the horrific murder of a 60-year-old Gynaecologist at her residence in Sector-13 Urban Estate, Kurukshetra, five accused in connection with the case have been arrested by the Special Investigations Team after a brief exchange of fire.

The five accused who had looted cash and jewellery from the victim’s home were nabbed. The victim doctor was killed on Monday evening, they said.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported about the unfortunate murder of the Gynaecologist and the miscreants who looted her husband at gunpoint.

The victim used to bake and sell cakes and biscuits from a bakery at her home as a hobby. Her husband is also a doctor, the police said. According to employees of her husband's clinic, four persons came to the clinic and went upstairs to take delivery of a cake.

Around 9 PM on January 9, the miscreants entered the house of the victim's husband, who has a clinic on the ground floor of his house. He somehow escaped and tried to get help from the neighbours, but by the time he reached the house again, the miscreants had already murdered his wife after looting jewellery and money from the house.

On this complaint, a case of murder and robbery was registered at the Thanesar City police station.

Superintendent of Police SS Bhoria said a Special Investigations Team was constituted immediately after the incident. It collected evidence from the spot and analyzed footage from CCTV cameras at the house. Late on Tuesday afternoon, the police received information that the five suspects were travelling in their car from Pehowa to Kurukshetra. A police team was assigned to follow the accused.

As the accused closed in on Kurukshetra, they turned towards Dhand Road. When the police tried to stop them, the accused fired at them. The police fired back in retaliation and one accused suffered an injury on his foot.

Bhoria said four of the accused were from Haryana’s Kaithal district while the other hailed Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh. Four country-made 315-bore rifles and one 132-bore revolver were seized from the accused.

Preliminary interrogations have revealed that the accused had gone to rob the house. When the victim resisted them, they assaulted her and she suffered a head injury that resulted in her death, the police official added.

The accused have disclosed where they hid the jewellery and Rs 1.50 lakh in cash and the police will recover it later, Bhoria added.

Expressing their deepest condolences and solidarity to the deceased's family, Dr. Rakesh Bhardwaj, the President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kurukshetra told Medical Dialogues that a condolence meeting will be held today at her husband's clinic as discussed at the General body meeting of IMA. "In respect of the departed soul, we remain closed completely till 8 pm," he added.

Earlier, the IMA declared to keep the nursing homes and private multispecialty hospitals closed for 48 hours and said that subsequent decisions will be taken after the cremation ceremony of the late doctor.

Following this, the police will take her husband for identification of the accused. "On our insistence for their identification, it has been decided that her husband will identify them at 2 pm in the court.

Our further course of action will be decided subject to satisfaction of the grieved family and all of us. However, we have conveyed our gratitude to the police and administration and our MLA Subhash ji for full cooperation and swift action," Dr Bhardwaj added.
