Maha: Woman alleges her 5-month-old foetus forcefully aborted, 2 doctors, kin booked
Mumbai: Two doctors have been booked by the Kalamboli police based on a complaint filed by a woman alleging that five of her family members conspired with the medical practitioners at a private hospital, and aborted her five-month-old foetus without her consent.
Besides the doctors, 5 of her kin including the mother and sister of the 20-year-old pregnant woman have also been booked under sections 313, 318, 506, and 34 of the IPC.

On December 11, the woman was allegedly forced by her mother and sister to undergo abortion at Amar Hospital in Kalamboli. Despite her refusal, her kin, along with the help of a doctor, had forced her to undergo the procedure, reports The Free Press Journal.
Consequently, on December 18, she approached the Kalamboli police. The complainant claimed that she was forced into signing the abortion consent form at the hospital on December 8.
As per a recent media report in TOI, the doctor gave her sedative to abort the fetus on instruction from her family on December 11. After the victim was released from the hospital she heard a conversation between her father and maternal uncle about disposing the foetus between Adai village and Panvel station.
In a statement, a senior official from the Kalamboli police station shared that the woman had married without her family's consent and started a new life. The family wanted her to abort the child. The woman, through her sister, came to know about her husband and, on April 2021, got acquainted with him. Both dated for a brief period, and while dating, the woman got pregnant in August. Then they decided to get married and did court marriage without the family's approval.
"They married at Bandra Court in September. Even after the marriage, her sister and mother kept interfering in the victim's family life," said an official.
This created tensions among both. Both stayed in a rented apartment in Virar. However, when the quarrels between the two increased, the owner asked them to vacate the house. The husband shifted to his friend's house while the woman moved to her sister's house in Panvel. As per the complaint raised by the victim during this period, her mother and sister planned the abortion.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-II, Shivraj Patil, told Free Press Journal that a total of seven persons had been booked. The police will send a report to the concerned medical authority to take action against the hospital.
"We have registered a case against seven persons including the doctor and started investigations," stated Patil.
Police inspector (crime) Dilip Gujar said, "We have recorded doctors' statements. They claimed that she did not undergo a an abortion at their hospital."
No arrest have been made yet.
