Cooch Behar: Just two months away from completing his medical degree course, a 26-year-old final year MBBS medico of MJN Medical College and Hospital in Cooch Behar allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room.
While the preliminary investigation by police indicates that the trainee doctor died by suicide as he was struggling emotionally over relationship issues, his father and brother have vehemently refuted these claims alleging foul play. They have alleged that he faced mental harassment both at the hospital and the hostel.
His brother further raised suspicion, stating that when the body was discovered hanging, his brother's feet were still touching the ground.
Demanding a proper and fair investigation into his son's death, the father claimed that his son was murdered asserting that he was strong-willed and would never have taken such an extreme step.

The deceased, a resident of Bihar’s Begusarai district, was pursuing a medical internship at the state-run MJN Medical College and Hospital.
The incident took place late Wednesday night when his classmates found him dead hanging in his room and immediately alerted the hostel authorities. Upon receiving the information, the college authorities then contacted the police and informed his family, and his father, along with relatives who arrived in Cooch Behar on Thursday.
During the initial probe, the police did not find any external injuries on the deceased's body thereby ruling out the possibility of any foul play. It is reported that the circumstances led to the death as suicide. "Prima facie, it appeared the man died by suicide. He was found hanging in the hostel room," said the police.
Strongly denying these claims, the deceased father told Millennium Post, "He was confident and courageous. He could not have taken his own life. He was mentally tortured, and we demand a proper investigation."
Speaking to HT, the deceased brother said, “The college authorities told us that my brother has died by suicide. But when we reached the medical college, we got to know that he was found hanging but his feet were touching the ground. This indicates murder. Police have assured that they would probe thoroughly."
Dr Nirmal Kumar Mandal, Principal of MJN Medical College, stated, "Around midnight, we were informed that a trainee doctor had died. Other students noticed the incident and alerted us. We immediately informed the police and the student’s family. The police investigation is underway, and we will not comment further. It is sad that a student, just two months away from receiving his medical degree, has taken such a step."
Following the trainee doctor's death, the father filed a complaint at the Cooch Bihar police station. Acting on the complaint, the police registered an FIR under section 103 (murder) of the BNS on Friday. An investigation is underway to determine the exact reason behind the doctor's death.
Later, the police sent his body for post-mortem under videographic supervision, in the presence of the hospital principal and other officials. Cooch Behar Superintendent of Police, Dyutiman Bhattacharya, said, “We are investigating the matter in detail."
