Mysuru PHC medical officer relieved over alleged intoxication on duty

Mysuru- The Medical Officer at the Melahalli Primary Health Centre (PHC) has been relieved of duty after social media posts allegedly showed him in an intoxicated condition. District health officials have also recommended disciplinary action against him.
The Health Department has initiated disciplinary action against the doctor, who is accused of creating a ruckus while under the influence of alcohol during duty hours. Officials said immediate action was ordered as soon as the matter came to light.
Speaking to TOI, Mysuru District Health Officer (DHO) Dr PC Kumaraswamy stated that he has been directed to report to the Health Commissioner in Bengaluru.
He stated that doctors and healthcare workers must discharge their duties with a sense of social commitment while providing healthcare services. Strict disciplinary action will be taken against any conduct contrary to this principle. Indiscipline will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, alternative arrangements have been made at the Melahalli PHC, and another Medical Officer has been deployed to ensure that public health services continue without any interruption.
The medical officer has been serving at the PHC for the past three years and has completed 15 years of government service. However, in recent times, his behaviour changed due to family problems; the department even attempted counselling to bring him back into the mainstream, but it yielded no results.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that in a shocking incident, an Operation Theatre (OT) attendant at a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Narmadapuram district has been suspended for allegedly impersonating a doctor and performing a breast surgery on a woman, officials said on Sunday.
This incident occurred at a civil hospital in the town of Pipariya and came to light eight days after the procedure, when the victim, a resident of Singnama village, lodged a complaint with the Block Medical Officer.
