Narrow escape for Chennai Doctor as car bursts into flames
Chennai: A quick thinking and immediate action of a 37-year-old doctor, fortunately, saved him from sustaining serious injuries or even death after his car suddenly caught fire on the Vandalur-Minjur Outer Ring Road.
The doctor identified as Dr Umesh Kumar experienced a near-death situation on Thursday morning when he was on his way to work at a Private Medical College Hospital near Sikkarayapuram where he was employed.

As he drove along the Outer Ring Road, he noticed smoke billowing from the front of the vehicle. At that moment, his instinct kicked in and he immediately parked the car on the roadside and got out of the car realising something was wrong, as per the TOI news report.
Within seconds, the car was engulfed in flames, with the intense heat causing the windows and batteries to explode. This massive explosion caused panic among the passersby and commuters as the flames were coming out intensely. The road was packed with traffic jams for a few moments.
After watching his car on fire, the doctor immediately alerted the fire and rescue control room. By the time, the team from Tambaram had reached the spot, the car was almost absorbed by the blaze.
Preliminary investigation of the case revealed that an electrical short circuit might have triggered the blaze. However, it is not clear what exactly might have caused the car to be on fire. An investigation is underway in this regard.
