Neurosurgeon, family held hostage; valuables worth Rs 5 lakh stolen

Patna: In a shocking incident, a doctor and his family were held hostage by five robbers at their residence in the Agamkuan police station area late on Thursday night. The assailants escaped with jewellery, cash and other valuables worth over Rs 5 lakh.
A complaint was registered at the Agamkuan police station on Friday. The incident took place at the house of Dr Himanshu Kumar, a neurosurgeon at Ruban Hospital, and his wife, Dr Subi Sharan, a microbiologist at Medanta Hospital.
Speaking to TOI, the couple said, “The attackers escaped with gold and diamond jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh that she was wearing.”
According to a report by The Times of India, the family reported that the robbery took place around 2 am, when the criminals arrived in an SUV. They scaled the boundary wall to enter the premises and first broke into a ground-floor room where his parents, Sharda Devi and Indradeo Prasad, were sleeping. The elderly couple was held at gunpoint, and when they resisted, the assailants allegedly assaulted them.

After listening to the screams of the elderly parents, the doctor couple rushed down. They were also held hostage at gunpoint.
Indradeo Prasad suffered injuries near his teeth, while Sharda Devi sustained a shoulder injury. Hearing their screams, the doctor and his wife rushed downstairs but were also threatened at gunpoint.
The robbers then snatched Dr Sharan’s jewellery and escaped. The injured parents were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police reached the spot soon after and began an investigation.
Agamkuan SHO Neeraj Kumar Pandey said four suspects were clearly captured on CCTV cameras installed at the house. Forensic and dog squad teams have collected evidence, and raids are underway to identify and arrest the accused, The Daily reported.
This incident has raised serious concerns about safety and security in the area, especially for the elderly living alone.
