Jamui: Retired Civil Surgeon's family sedated at gunpoint, Rs 50 lakh looted

Jamui: In a shocking incident, a retired civil surgeon and his family were sedated at gunpoint and robbed of cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 50 lakh in a daring early-morning heist at their residence in Jamui.

The incident occurred around 5 am on Monday, barely 15 metres from the Giddhaur police station, and went unnoticed until the family was found unconscious.

According to the news reports, the robbers reportedly broke into the house of Dr Vijayendra Satyarthi and held him, his wife, and their son hostage at gunpoint. The robbers allegedly injected the family with sedatives incapacitate them before carrying out the robbery.

His wife said that around 5.30 am, when she stepped out of her room, she saw two unknown men standing near the downstairs room. “When I asked who they were, they didn’t answer. One of them gagged me, and when I tried to raise an alarm, the other pushed a revolver into my mouth and threatened to shoot,” she said. She added that the criminals claimed they had a contract to kill the doctor and demanded to know where the cash and jewellery were kept. “They said if we didn’t tell them, they would shoot my husband. After asking about the money, one of them forcibly injected me, and I became unconscious,” she said, reports Patna Press.

Their son later stated that he heard his mother scream while he was in the bathroom. When he rushed out, he saw five masked men pointing guns at his parents. As he attempted to intervene, the assailants restrained him, tied his hands, took him to another room, looted jewellery from his wedding, and injected him as well.

Considering the gravity of the incident, the SP ordered a preliminary inquiry into the matter. Following the investigation, the role of the police station in charge was found to be unsatisfactory, leading to his suspension on charges of inaction and negligence in preventing crime.

According to the letter issued, during the suspension period, the Police Station Officer has been kept on a general living allowance, and his headquarters have been fixed as Police Centre, Jamui, reports Jagran.

Meanwhile, the Additional Police Station in charge, Jaiprakash Kumar Singh, has been assigned responsibility for maintaining law and order and handling administrative duties at the Giddhaur police station until a new in-charge is appointed.

Speaking to Patna Press, Sub-Inspector Jayprakash Singh of Giddhaur police station said all family members are stable and being treated at the hospital. “We are investigating the case. CCTV footage from the area is being examined. The criminals will be arrested soon,” he said.
