"No Service Without Justice": VIMS Ballari Doctors Stage Protest Against Assault on Female on-duty Intern
Ballari: In yet incident of violence against doctors, a female on-duty intern at Vijaynagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Ballari was assaulted by miscreants yesterday evening. The incident reportedly occurred when the intern on-duty doctor was doing her usual evening rounds. When a patient's condition deteriorated, the patient's attendants allegedly attacked the intern.
Demanding immediate action in this regard, the junior doctors at the institute staged a protest yesterday. They also raised the issue with the district administrator.
Writing to the District Commissioner yesterday, the members of the JDA at VIMS Ballari referred to the incident of assault on the female on-duty intern. The letter mentioned, "We members of JDA-VIMS Ballari, hereby sitting on a protest with immediate effect with regard to an assault on female on duty Intern on 03/06/24 at around 6:30 at New Emergency, VIMS Ballari. We are aware of the code of conduct of the election, yet we consider it important & request you to please address the issue & permit us to continue the protest."
The X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Indian Doctor shared a picture of the protesting doctors, who were seen holding placards saying "Here to serve not to suffer", "No service without justice", and "If we bleed you bleed too. Save us save yourself."
"Assault In #Karnataka on Female intern by Miscrients in medicine casualty at 6:30pm 3/6/24 in vijayanagara institute of medical science ...bellary karnataka. Doctors are on Strike!!" mentioned the X post by Indian Doctor.
Raising the issue, Dr. Sankalp, a resident of Internal Medicine shared a video of the protesting doctors on X. The protesting doctors were seen in the video raising slogans demanding justice. He wrote, "ONE MORE DAY , ONE MORE ASSAULT Vims ballari , a female intern was doing her usual evening rounds, where she suffered the brunt of attenders , when the condition of the patient deteriorated .. This has to stop."
Vistara News has reported that the accused were attendants of a patient, who was being treated at the hospital. The patient's father alleged that his father died due to medical negligence. Enraged at the fact that the treatment did not work, the patient's son allegedly attacked the on-duty doctor.
Meanwhile, sources informed Medical Dialogues that the culprits involved in this incident of violence have been arrested.
