Kolkata: A doctor was recently booked under several non-bailable charges and arrested for allegedly impersonating as a Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer, and giving advice to the state governor, Jagdeep Dhankhar. He also wrote letters to various top government offices, including the state election commission.
The medical practitioner was arrested by the Kolkata police early on Friday. The police said that he used to write letters to the Governor and Central Election Commissioner giving them advice by impersonating as a RAW agent.

The police stated, "The person is a doctor by profession. For the last few years he had written several letters advising several heavyweights including Governor and Election Commissioner by mentioning him as RAW agent. This culprit was traced in Kolkata after Governor Dhankhar had lodged a complaint against this person."
According to a media report in The Free Press Journal, the complaint was initially filed by the governor at the Hare Street police station in March 2021 after which the Detective cell of Lalbazar began their investigation. They were able to trace the doctor with the help of one of his trusted aides. The doctor's close aide was initially arrested following which the main accused himself was detained.
Joint CP (crime), Murlidhar Sharma said, "The case is still being probed and it has several nuances and his credentials are being verified."
The officer added that the officials are not clear about the motive behind the act and are questioning him. He refused to share any other details related to the case, reports Times Now.
Presently, the team probing the case are unaware that if he had passed on any suggestions to the senior administrative heads.
According to Joint CP (Crime) Murlidhar Sharma, they are looking into other sources to determine if he had received any help from others in performing the fraud.
Charges under fraud, criminal conspiracy and several other non-bailable charges have been booked against the fraudster. The accused was produced before a court. The police officials are planning to record the statement of other witnesses as well.
