Odisha: 152 super-speciality posts approved to boost tertiary healthcare

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has approved the creation of 152 posts for super-speciality departments across government medical colleges and hospitals in the state as part of efforts to improve tertiary healthcare services.

The Health and Family Welfare department has sanctioned posts for Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Senior Residents in various government medical colleges. The newly approved posts will be introduced in super speciality departments, including Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, and Haematology.

Officials said the move is aimed at enhancing specialist healthcare services and improving medical education facilities in government-run institutions. The newly approved posts will be distributed among several medical colleges and hospitals.

According to the news reports, Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar will receive faculty and senior resident positions in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, and Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada, Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, and Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore have each been allotted posts in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, and Nephrology.

MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur, has been sanctioned posts for the Department of Haematology, while VIMSAR, Burla, has received approvals for Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery and Surgical Gastroenterology. SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, has been allotted posts for the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College and Hospital, Talcher, will have new posts in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Plastic Surgery, while Shri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital, Puri, has received approvals for Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and all posts in the Department of Plastic Surgery, reports Odisha Bytes.

Officials further said the recruitment of specialist doctors and senior residents will help improve the availability of advanced medical services in government hospitals and make quality healthcare more accessible to people across the state.

Following the approval, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling said the department would further strengthen healthcare delivery and provide quality medical services to the people. He reiterated that the state government remains committed to ensuring world-class healthcare facilities and expressed confidence that the increase in skilled manpower would further improve the quality of health services in the state. reports UNI.

The Health and Family Welfare Department also highlighted its recent recruitment efforts, stating that 5,197 Medical Officers and paramedical personnel have been appointed over the past two years.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday announced the appointment of 1,840 medical officers and over 5,000 para-medical staff to strengthen healthcare delivery across tribal areas in the state.

Additionally, the government has approved recruitment for 5,989 Nursing Officers, 240 Radiographers, 1,108 Pharmacist Officers, 238 Ophthalmic Officers, and 380 Medical Laboratory Technicians to further bolster the state's public healthcare system.
