Bhubaneswar- In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old doctor posted at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Ganjam district, Odisha, was arrested on Monday following allegations that he entered into a relationship with a woman, exploited her financially, and later ended the relationship.
According to the police, the doctor, posted as a general physician at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Dengausta, Ganjam district, first came into contact with the woman via social media in 2014.
Police said the woman, who was married but was living apart from her husband due to some personal disputes, according to the TNIE report.
According to the complaint, the accused and the woman entered into a relationship by mutual consent. The two also travelled to Dubai earlier in the year, a trip the expenses of which were allegedly sponsored by the woman. While there, the accused stated that he was no longer interested in continuing the relationship with her.
Upon hearing this, the woman asked him to return the money he had allegedly spent on her. She also demanded that the doctor return the gold jewellery he had gifted her during their relationship.
However, the accused allegedly refused to return the money and valuables and also threatened the victim with dire consequences.
Finding no other options, she lodged a complaint at the Airfield Police Station. A case was registered based on his complaint, and the doctor was also apprehended that same day.
