Odisha: SCB Hospital Doctor arrested for polygamy
Cuttack: Based on a complaint, Bhubaneswar Mahila police arrested a doctor for allegedly being involved in polygamy.
The accused has been identified as Asish Pattnaik, attached to an SCB Medical College and Hospital. He was arrested for allegedly marrying three women.
After the third wife came to know about the accused other marriages. She immediately filed a complaint at the Mahila police station.

Polygamy was declared to be illegal in India in 1956, except few exceptions made on religious grounds. Muslim men are allowed to take up to four wives, whereas polygamy among other religions has completely been deemed unlawful.
The complainant told Odishatv, "I got married to the doctor a couple of months back. It was only recently that I found him already married to two other women. Subsequently, I lodged a complaint with the Mahila police station."
She further alleged "The doctor has a polygamous tendency. I suffered a lot for which I filed the police complaint against the doctor."

"The doctor married my client through an affidavit without divorcing his second wife. The accused has two children from his first two wives. My client came to know about the cheating after two months of her marriage," Adisha Mohanty, advocate of the complainant said.
The police are investigating further to uncover the truth behind the allegations.
Medical Dialogues team earlier had reported that a 23-year-old man was arrested for allegedly posing as a doctor and examining patients at a government-run medical college and hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur. Sani Chakraborty was wearing a white coat and examining patients outside the orthopaedic ward of the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College Hospital.
