Patient dies after gynecomastia surgery at Mangaluru Hair Transplant Clinic, Family alleges medical negligence
Mangaluru: A doctor at a Flaunt Cosmetic Surgery and Hair Transplant Clinic in Mangaluru has been accused of negligence by the family of a patient who died due to complications following gynecomastia surgery. In response, the district health department has taken suo motu cognizance and temporarily shut down the clinic.
Blaming the doctor and the clinic for negligence, the family members claimed that the errors during the surgery caused their patient's death. They also raised concerns about the clinic’s inadequate facilities.
As per Vartha Bharati news report, the incident took place after the 32-year-old patient visited the clinic on Saturday morning to have a small cyst removed from his chest, a procedure that was anticipated to last only 30 minutes. However, their family members alleged that the surgery took hours to complete. They claimed that neither the doctor nor the clinic staff informed them about the extended time of the surgery.
Outside the operation theatre, his mother and wife who were waiting anxiously were later informed by the staff that the patient's health condition deteriorated. According to his family members, the sudden deterioration in his health led them to rush him to a private hospital in Kodialbail, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Following his death, the family members filed a complaint with the Kadri police, accusing the clinic of gross negligence. They alleged that the clinic’s doctor had mishandled the procedure, leading to his untimely death.
Additionally, it came to light that the clinic was located at a confined location which made it impossible for the ambulance stretcher to reach the clinic and pick up the patient in the ambulance.
Condemning the incident, Social activist Rizwan Pandeshwar has urged the public to avoid clinics lacking proper infrastructure for cosmetic procedures.
District health officer Dr H R Timmaiah stated, "During a preliminary inspection by health officers, it was found that the clinic lacked basic infrastructure. An expert committee has been formed to investigate the matter, and the committee will submit its investigation report to the DC", reports IANS.
