Patient dies during Tubectomy allegedly performed without anaesthesia! Bhopal doctors booked for medical negligence

Bhopal: Five persons including a gynaecologist, anaesthesia specialist, medical officer, paramedic staff and the superintendent of Katju Hospital have recently been booked by TT Nagar police station for allegedly causing a woman's death due to medical negligence while conducting her tubectomy around seven months ago. It was alleged that the patient was operated on without being administered any anaesthesia. After around 20 minutes of being taken inside for the surgery, she passed away.
Based on the complaint received in this regard, the officials at TT Nagar police station have registered an FIR against Dr Jain, the gynaecologist, Colonel Singh, the hospital superintendent, an anaesthesia specialist, De. Grewal, a medical officer of the medico-legal institute of GMC, and a paramedic staff.
The history of the case goes back to May 14, 2024 , when the patient, a 34-year-old lady, was admitted to the treating hospital for tubectomy surgery. However, after being taken inside the operating theatre, she died after some time. Meanwhile, the deceased's husband claimed that his wife was completely fine before the surgery.
Free Press Journal has reported that when the patient was brought out of the operation theatre, her stomach had swelled. As per Navbharat Times, the doctors and the hospital staff claimed that the patient had died due to a heart attack during the surgery.
Allegedly, the deceased's husband was forced by the hospital staff and the doctors to sign some documents. After much argument, the police reportedly conducted a post-mortem of the body. However, it refused to preserve the viscera. Commenting on the matter, the deceased's husband further informed FPJ that the case was re-registered after he approached the Court.
The counsel for the complainant Anil Namdev informed Navbharat Times that after a lengthy process of 7 months, the Court ordered to register an FIR and in the preliminary investigation, the Court reportedly found it to be a case of medical negligence.
FPJ has further reported that even though anaesthesia experts were present at the hospital, no one accompanied the victim inside the operation theatre which was a violation of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) guidelines.
