Prof Russell D'Souza, Psychiatrist And Bioethicist, Honoured In Delhi

Dr Abhijat Sheth Honouring Prof. Russell D'Souza
Prof Russell D'Souza has been honoured by NMC Chairman Dr Abhijat Seth at a function in Delhi on August 26, 2026, in recognition of his contribution to medical education.
New Delhi: Professor Russell Franco D’Souza has been honoured for his contributions to medical education by Dr Abhijat Sheth, Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC). The honour was conferred at a function held in Punjabi Bagh, Delhi, on August 26, 2026.
Professor D’Souza is an internationally recognised psychiatrist, academician and bioethicist. He currently serves as Dean and Professor of Organisational Psychological Medicine at the International Institute of Organisational Psychological Medicine (IIOPM), which has campuses across Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
He also serves as Chair and Head of the Asia Pacific Division of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics at the University of Haifa, a position he has held since 2011. In addition, he is associated with the UNESCO Global Chair and Network for Medical, Health Professions and Bioethics Education in Melbourne, Australia.
D’Souza completed his MBBS and MD in Chest Diseases from Madras Medical College, University of Madras, India. He later moved to Australia, where he pursued specialist qualifications in Psychological Medicine, Medical Administration, Health Service Management and International Bioethics Education.
His academic work also includes editorial responsibilities in international medical and bioethics publications. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Global Bioethics Enquiry, the indexed international journal of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, and as Founding Managing Editor of the Asian Journal of Psychiatry.
D’Souza has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and several internationally recognised textbooks to his credit. His professional contributions span bioethics, psychiatry, medical education and global health leadership.
Dr Vedprakash Mishra, President of the Association of Medical Educators of India, Dr Mary Mathew, Secretary General and Vice Chancellor of KVELL Deemed University, and many other dignitaries were also present at the event.
