Acting on a tip-off, Dr. Marimuthu and police officers inspected Rajendran’s premises on Tuesday afternoon. During the raid, officials seized various medical instruments, including a stethoscope, glucometer, sphygmomanometer, IV sets, dextrose bottles, tablets, and other medicines, many of which appeared to have been used.
The accused reportedly claimed that he possessed a Siddha medicine degree. He was also found to be running a pharmacy nearby, which has now been ordered shut by the Health Department. All medicines and medical equipment were confiscated during the raid.
Based on a complaint filed by Dr Marimuthu, the police arrested the accused under sections 317 (impersonation) and 318 (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 34 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
The accused was subsequently arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The case highlights the growing number of quacks operating in rural and semi-urban areas, posing serious risks to public health.
