Quack Implants Bullet in Woman's Chest to frame Mayor

Meerut: In a shocking turn of events, a quack in Hajipur has emerged as a key figure in an elaborate plot to frame Bareilly’s mayor and his son in a false case of kidnapping, gang rape, and attempted murder.
The case, which has stunned both the public and the authorities, took a dramatic twist when police discovered that the bullet lodged in the woman’s chest was never fired — it was surgically implanted.
The 40-year-old woman claimed she was kidnapped by five men on March 29, gang-raped in a moving vehicle, and shot in the chest before being abandoned on the roadside. She reportedly made her way to a hospital and contacted the police with her harrowing tale.
According to police reports, the woman, a former domestic help at the residence of Bareilly Mayor Dr. Umesh Gautam, paid ₹2,500 to an unqualified medical practitioner to implant a bullet in her chest.
The woman had been previously employed at Mayor Gautam's residence and was dismissed in 2021 by his wife. This is not her first accusation against the Mayor—she filed a similar complaint in 2022, which was closed after investigation due to lack of evidence.

However, forensic analysis, combined with CCTV footage from the alleged crime scene, dismantled her claims. Investigators concluded that the shooting never occurred and that the entire incident was staged with the help of the unlicensed doctor.

According to TOI, that version of events began to disintegrate as investigators compared her words with surveillance footage. "We checked the CCTV and found that she arrived at the hospital in an auto-rickshaw," said SSP Anurag Arya. "There was no abduction." No gunpowder residue was found at the site she pointed to as the place she was shot. And the bullet in her chest? It had never been fired.
Her accomplices included a hospital worker who sourced the bullet, and the quack who carried out the implantation. Both have been arrested, and police are currently tracking down four others believed to be involved in the conspiracy.
